The Philippines is a country that is often ignored in favor of its more popular neighboring countries in Southeast Asia. However, it happens to be a unique tourist destination which offers a blend of the most sophisticated cultures in the continent. Looking back in history, there's certainly a lot of foreign influences to be found, namely from the Chinese, the Japanese and even the Americans. Knowing this, you would certainly be overwhelmed even with the influences these cultures have had on the food. Although Filipino food is considered to be mild in comparison to other dishes in the Asian region, there are a lot of them which offer just as much scrumptiousness and tastiness. There are a lot of dishes which tourists and visitors have found rather fascinating, and could not get enough of them at all. Below are just a few examples of these Filipino dishes which you should try out if you ever decide to visit the country:
Sinigang - This is simply a soup dish which effectively blends salty and sour flavors. The stock is usually made with a hint of calamansi, guava or tamarind. You can mix in either pork, chicken, shrimp or fish for this dish. Many foreigners have delighted in the unique taste of this dish and have certainly found themselves longing for more of it. You can even see a few foreigners coming up with cooking shows on YouTube showcasing how you can make this dish for yourself.
Adobo - This is clearly one of the most famous dishes that the Filipinos invented, with several visitors praising it, often citing it as one of the best dishes they've tried in the country. The dish mainly consists of either chicken, pork or both mixed in a sauce that's made of soy sauce along with other ingredients such as bay leaf, pepper and vinegar. This is a staple dish prepared in many Filipino homes.
Lechon - Now, this is certainly one of the most sought after Filipino dishes. Just when you thought roasted pig can't get any better, you couldn't have been any more wrong. The type of roast pig is cooked with a few herbs stuffed in it until it appears reddish. The delectably crispy skin serves as a great complement to the tender meat and, depending on which region in the country you find yourself in, is served with some tasty liver sauce.
